The Integral Coach Factory in Chennai awarded the contract bullet trains

BEML has secured a ₹866.87 crore contract to design, manufacture, and commission two high-speed train sets, marking a major milestone for India’s rail industry. The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai awarded the contract, following the Railways’ decision to move away from procuring Japanese bullet trains.

Each train car will cost ₹27.86 crore, with the total project covering design, tooling, development, and testing facilities, paving the way for future high-speed rail projects. The train sets, with a top speed of 280 kmph, will be built at BEML’s Bengaluru rail coach complex and are expected to be delivered by the end of 2026.

This ambitious venture showcases India’s growing capacity for high-speed rail technology and signals a new chapter in the country’s railway journey.
